    Workshop Description: Layer a Portrait

Students will learn to create a portrait of animals, flowers and people using multiple layers of fused fabrics to create a realistic, but artsy portrait depending on fabric choices. It consists of placing one fabric layer on top of the previous to bring out more details in your piece. Students will receive guidance step-by-step from the instructor.

This workshop is for confident beginner to intermediate sewists. Students will walk away with a new technique and understanding that they can build upon to create a simple, but artsy piece.

This is a no sew workshop.

    Class Fee: $45.00 members/$60.00 Non-Members

    Required Supplies:

    - 5-7 fat quarters which should be from light to dark in color (no medium or large print fabrics. Use small prints, tone on tone or solids. Fabrics should read as a solid from 3 feet away) *Student will only use 4 to 6 of their chosen fabrics depending on the project they choose for the class. 7 pieces is to give the student more options in their color selections.

    - 2 yards of Heat N Bond Lite, Wonder Under or double-sided fusible of your choice (Please no fusible without paper side and no Steam-A-Seam. It makes the project too thick to quilt)

    - Small Pointed Tip Scissors (Leo uses Kai N5000 series with a curved tip)

    - Fine Point Sharpie or Ink Pen

    - Straight Pins

    - Small Foam Core Board (that will accommodate an 11"x14" project and will double as an ironing surface for your project)

*Pattern (Supplied by the instructor with over a dozen to choose from such as people, animals and flowers)

Prep Requirements: Students can cut their fusible into 12"x17" pieces (you will have extra, but it can be used as backup in case the glue dissipates, or the student decides to change the color of one of their fabrics. You can bring the fusible rolled up to the class to keep it protected.
